Artist Statement: 

    The image 24/7 explores the relationship between criminals and the justice system, as well as the religious trope of the seven deadly sins. The plate is replaced with a clock to represent the race against time that detectives have with serial killers to catch them before they kill again. Surrounding the clock are the efforts of the justice system represented by forensics gloves and polaroids depicting a mock crime scene. Placed on the clock are seven objects that represent each of the seven deadly sins which collectively represent the serial killer. The seven deadly sins in Christianity are the capital vices that when committed, other immoralities are believed to follow. Greed is represented with coins as money is sought by many often using immoral methods to obtain it. Pride is represented by a peacock feather because that is the symbol of pride in Christianity. Envy is represented by a green snake because it aligns with the popular phrase “green with envy”, and snakes are the animal that symbolizes envy. Gluttony is represented with candy as many people overindulge in sweets. Lust is symbolized through Magnum condoms as those are used to express lust for another person. The grapes represent wrath after the popular novel The Grapes of Wrath. Finally, Sloth is represented by a potato as the main quality of the sloth sin is laziness, and the phrase “couch potato” is often used to describe lazy individuals. This assembly of objects represents the relationship between criminals and the justice system photoshopped with a film lining to indicate the entire image of 24/7 as an investigation.
